Artisanal Japanese watches inspired by industrial instruments and vintage cameras.

About Otsuka Lotec

Otsuka Lotec is the work of Jiro Katayama, an automotive designer turned self-taught watchmaker who started building timepieces on a bench lathe in his Tokyo kitchen around 2008. Every watch features an unconventional time display — retrograde mechanisms, jumping hours, fish-eye lenses — inspired by vintage cameras, old industrial gauges, and machine lathes. The steampunk aesthetic is genuine, not affected. Production is limited to roughly 200 pieces per year, sold exclusively through a lottery system to Japanese residents, which gives each watch a coveted JDM quality. The name itself — combining Tokyo's Otsuka district with 'Lotec' (low-tech) — captures the philosophy: hands-on craftsmanship over digital precision. For collectors who value independent horology and industrial design, Katayama's work occupies a class of its own.
