Oogoya
Shigaraki ware from local clay, made by the potters of one of Japan's oldest kiln towns.
About Oogoya
Oogoya is dedicated to Shigaraki ware, the ceramic tradition of the town of Shigaraki in Shiga Prefecture, and works with clay dug from the surrounding area. The shop runs two lines. Its own collections, such as Kohiki, Moonlight and Donabe, are made in Shigaraki for daily use, with textured surfaces and quiet colours that frame food. The signature line represents individual potters from the region: Matsumoto Tomohiro, a fifth-generation Shigaraki potter known for bold glazes; Tanaka Keiji, who digs his own clay and fires only in a wood kiln; Sawa Katsunori, who carves his own tools; and Lee Jaehyeon, whose work draws on Korean and Japanese technique. Limited sets, such as a box of twelve sakazuki cups by twelve artists, round out the range.
Why it’s here
Oogoya pairs its own everyday collections with work by named Shigaraki potters, from a fifth-generation family workshop to a wood-fire purist. It's a way into a living craft tradition at table-use prices, not only gallery prices.
